Presence and Self-Compassion Retreat
Offering compassionate care and teaching can be immensely rewarding, yet emotionally demanding for helping professionals, caregivers, and educators. Sustained attention and care of others, as a therapist, educator, parent or child of aging parents, without a balance of compassion and care for self, can lead to burn-out and exhaustion.
This retreat provides an opportunity for self-care, restoration, and connection in a beautiful and natural setting. Innovative tools for cultivating presence, such as drumming, photography, mindfulness and self-compassion will be practiced together. These tools provide creative and playful ways to cultivate presence and self-compassion.
With the cultivation of presence and self-compassion, we can develop greater trust in our ability to move through work and life challenges with greater ease, while feeling energized, calm, and centered. This can help us return to our work and care for others, with greater attention, energy, purpose, while balancing care for ourselves.
Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) 8-Week Program
Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported, 8-week training program designed to cultivate the skills of self-compassion. Based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.
The three key components of self-compassion are self-kindness, a sense of common humanity, and balanced, mindful awareness. Kindness opens our hearts to suffering, so we can give ourselves what we need. Common humanity opens us to our essential interrelatedness, so that we know we aren’t alone. Mindfulness opens us to the present moment, so we can accept our experience with greater ease.
Self-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience and can be learned by anyone. Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression and stress, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and satisfying personal relationships.
Therapeutic Rhythm and Mindfulness (TRM™) 6-Week Workshop
TRM is an innovative approach to cultivating presence, with a synthesis of group drumming, mindfulness and emotion focused awareness. TRM is designed to increase positivity, vitality and social connectedness, while reducing stress and negative mood disturbance. The TRM program consists of 6 weekly 1.5 hour sessions, with a full day retreat. Each of the TRM sessions focus on a theme to help develop presence and mindful awareness, which means being completely aware and in touch with one’s present moment experience with acceptance and non-judgment. Themes include intention, grounding, authenticity, loving kindness, compassion, receptivity and integration.
TRM™ is also designed for health care providers, educators and anyone in the field of helping for both cultivating presence and self-care. This approach enhances personal growth, group empowerment, and overall health as well as building a sense of connection among participants.
